Leafield Olympic Loop

Leafield Olympic Loop, 17 Caches, 5 Miles, Oxfordshire, Map

The Fox, Leafield

The Leafield Olympic Loop or “LOL” as it is abbreviated to is a series series near the Oxfordshire village of Leafield and was put out to celebrate the hosting of the London 2012 Olympic Games. I had intended to do this loop in the summer whilst the games were actually on but never managed to squeeze it in. So after checking the weather forecast, it seemed that it would be a dry morning in this part of the country just right for caching.

I was a bit wary of what the ground conditions would be like following all the recent rain t and indeed the drive up to Oxfordshire made me wonder if it was such a good idea. I drove past many fields that had become small lakes and through a flooded road at Minster Lovell where the river had burst it’s banks.   The trail is mainly along flat country footpaths and nothing too strenuous and although some were very muddy and slippery underfoot, they were surprisingly in much better condition than I was expecting.

The series is made up of 17 caches, 2 of which were multi’s, both of which I dnf’d, just like  several cachers before me. Otherwise the caches generally were quite easy to find along the route.  The CO has also included some useful directions and interesting snippets of information about the sport that each cache has been named after.  I took Pip out with me today and the route was very dog friendly, no farm animals and just a couple of stiles but Pip had no problem getting over or under any of them. A nice series if you have a few hours to spare but if doing it in the winter, wear some good boots and gaiters.
