Trip Report – Betchworth Brockham Loop

Betchworth Brockham Loop is a series of 35 caches along a 7 mile figure of eight route. The walk started from the pretty village of Brockham in Surrey beside the very large village green in front of the church.  This was the second series in the area this weekend, following the glorious weather the day before it held up for me again today. Another great circuit with stunning views across the mole valley and up to the North Downs chalk hills, which are in sight almost the whole way round.

Old Betchworth Quarry

After leaving the village we were soon on to the Greensand Way and taking in the views of the chalky downs which, didn’t seem very far away. We had seen them from a greater distance yesterday and it was good to be just a little closer to them today.

St Michael's Church - Betchworth

The walk headed out towards the outskirts of Betchworth village and through the church yard of St. Michael’s, then over an old bridge built in 1842 and then back in the countryside.

Views over the Mole Valley

The trail then turned back and towards Strood Green where there were some brilliant views over the River Mole still with the white chalky hillside in the distance. I think I spotted at least 5 Pill boxes dotted around the large field, presumably to protect from an invasion making it’s way along the river!

Looking towards Christchurch, Brockham

As we completed the first half of the loops, the Christchurch at Brockham could be seen off in the distance.

Betchworth Golf Course, Boxhill in the distance

We then began the second half of the walk by walking the straight path through the middle of Betchworth Park Golf Course nestling under the North Downs overlooked by the legendary Boxhill beauty spot.  The last leg of the trail took us through some woodland and then along a private road through Park Farm, Pontail Farm and then back into Brockham village.  We finished off the morning with a picnic on the village green. Then back to Swindon.  Highly Recommended.
