A Wander around Long Compton in Warwickshire, is a series of 15 caches including a multi at the start and a bonus at the end. Originally I had planned to do this walk on Saturday but the very windy and rainy conditions meant that I had to delay until today, good job I did as the 4 mile trail is across open countryside and up a hill and the wind and rain combination would have spoiled this quite spectacular trail.
I parked beside the recreational field in the village of Long Compton where there were plenty of spaces, although it was quite busy with footballers arriving for the Sunday morning match. Before starting on the trail proper, I first needed to gather the clues for the multi cache which was the first cache in the series.
The trail started off on the flat and then after about 1.5 miles we started to climb the only hill on the route which took us the next mile or so. It wasn’t too strenuous and well worth it for the views that we enjoyed as we headed upwards.
There were several fields along the trail that were home to sheep, so Pip went back on her lead as we walked through them. There were plenty of other parts along the walk where she was able to run off lead, so she didn’t mind too much.
Apart from the sheep! The trail was dog friendly enough, there were about 3 stiles that we had to navigate, but none of them gave Pip any problem, in fact two of them had a built in dog flap. However, the lasting memory that I will take from this walk was the fantastic countryside and great views and we even saw the first snow drops of spring! Highly recommended. Awarded a favorite point.
